The icing on the cake!

What cake will you have for your wedding day?

A tall one, a round one, a chocolate one, a lemon one and the choice goes on.

But why do we have a wedding cake?

The wedding cake has been a feature of wedding celebrations ever since medieval times. Originally made of wheat, a symbol of fertility and prosperity, these cakes would have been thrown at the bride!

Symbolically, cutting the cake is the first task that the bride and groom perform jointly as husband and wife.

Sharing the first bite with each other signifies that the newlywed couple promise to share a whole new life together.

The top tier of the wedding cake was traditionally kept and used at the christening of the couple's first child. It was assumed that the christening would occur soon after the wedding. Today however, the top tier is often saved to be used at the couple's first anniversary.

This would be my perfect choice!!! A beautifully crafted cake by Butterflies & Angels.

Sunshine on a rainy day...

After spending almost a year helping Heather & Phil plan their big day it was lovely to see all the plans come together and form into a beautiful, bright, emotional day, regardless of all the rain.

Myself and Ruth from Sweet word stationery helped with the design for their wedding at Ringwood Hall back in June and kept Heather up to date with a job list and time lines, after all planning a wedding for over 100 guests isn't easily done on your own.

Here's a sneaky peek of the official photos by  Cat Hepple Photography who captured every special moment.

Heather was one of the most relaxed brides I have ever met, even the day before the wedding when we was folding napkins and adding name tags there wasn't a moment of stress!

A big thank you to Black eyed susan who worked off our mood boards to create center pieces and bouquets that fit perfectly with the theme, soft pretty floral center pieces that looked perfect.

Heather brother sadly couldn't be there as he is serving in Afghanistan, but he made it into the family photos as a card board cut out, what a great idea!

And to finish off a photo of the happy couple, all the best Heather & Phil.

A truly unique wedding that I wont ever forget, it was a pleasure to be a part of their big day.

Photo Workshop At Cressbrook Hall

As a wedding planner I don't only plan weddings I also organize and plan many other events too.
Simon Revill (a local photographer) asked me if i would organize one of his photo workshops, this is where photographers come to a venue from different parts of the country to practice wedding photography and share hints and tips.
Lots of my favorite suppliers took part including Steph from Gracie Bleu who provided the amazingly beautiful Amanda Wyatt wedding dresses, the hair and make up was done by mirror mirror and looked wonderful in keeping with the 1920's feel, the flowers were from Petalis at Sheffield and Sweet words stationery provided us with some lovely invitations and name place cards too. A big thank you to everyone else including the models who took part.

Tips to help you find a wedding venue

Whilst thinking about wedding venues earlier today it came across my mind that not everyone knows what to look for in a wedding venue.
I believe the venue is one of the most important parts to planning your wedding, if the venue is perfect so is everything else. Below I have given a few simple tips on what to think about when your venue search begins.

Have a chat….

Decide what type of wedding you would like, Are you looking for a outdoor summer wedding with a reception in a marquee, or a winter wedding in a cosy, elegant country house, or a high fashion modern wedding in a modern venue? Maybe you and your partner want different things so be prepared to compromise if you have different ideas, this could help avoid disagreements later!

Church or Civil?

If you’re having a church ceremony, ideally you would want your reception venue to be within a half an hour drive or even closer if you are expecting guests from far afield.

A civil wedding ceremony can be held at many venues, inside or outside so long as the room/pavilion is licensed. A civil ceremony is basically a legally approved marriage ceremony that contains no religious aspects.

Decide on a budget.

Working out a budget early on will help you to shortlist potential wedding venues. As well as the venue Catering will also take up quite a large chunk of your budget so remember to include it in your calculations.

Location

If possible its always more convenient for you and your guests if you choose a wedding venue near to where the majority of your guests live.

Wedding Guests

Have a rough idea of guest numbers before you start looking for a wedding venue or be prepared to alter your guest list. This should avoid the disappointment of visiting a beautiful wedding venue only to find out it is too big/small for your wedding.

Date

If you’re flexible about the day of the week, month, season, or even the year of your wedding you’ll have a much wider choice of venues. Venue hire is often cheaper on weekdays, so a weekday could seem a better idea if you’re working with a tight budget, other than that late availability is also one to look out for.
If you’ve decided on a date for your wedding and it’s set in stone, check the availability of that date before you visit.
